Inspirational Woman of the Quarter; Emily Orner

On Friday 7th July 2017, Emily Orner was named winner of the ARMA Ace Awards Property Woman of the Year, an accolade well earned and deserved. Emily has been in the property management sector for over 10 years and has worked her way to the top. Starting out as maternity cover as a PA to the Director, Emily became fascinated by the sector and saw an excellent opportunity to grow her career as a property manager.

Through challenging and difficult situations Emily’s commitment to deliver an excellent service for her clients and customers shone through. Two years ago, Emily’s hard work was recognised as she became the Head of Property Management for SPL Property Management, a firm based in Bournemouth. Emily now works tirelessly for her employees too, providing them with the support and encouragement they need to achieve.

Working in smaller management companies has allowed Emily to become involved in every aspect of leasehold property management but this has not been without its challenges. As with most young women in our male dominated industry, Emily encountered many situations where her advice was second guessed and the opinions of older male colleagues sought. This did not deter Emily though and by providing consistently high levels of customer service, and continually demonstrating her expertise in this area, she has earned the respect of her clients, colleagues and peers.

Emily’s commitment goes far beyond her day job. In 2015 Emily was the youngest elected fellow of the IRPM and one of a handful of females at the 2016 Fellows Day. Emily also sits on the Web/IT and Marketing Group for the IRPM and has been heavily involved working with them to enhance how they interact with younger members. Additionally, Emily makes every effort to attend the variety of different events held across the industry including Doyenne, YLP and LMP and uses this as an opportunity to support others in their journey.

But this is not the end for Emily. In constant pursuit of betterment Emily is now undertaking her 900 hours AssocRICS study course to seek full membership of RICS. Emily continues to look for new opportunities to improve and professionalise the industry and work with young people to show them what an incredible career property management can provide.

Emily, thank you for your support and commitment to Doyenne. It is thanks to women like you that we can demonstrate the benefits of hard work and dedication. You are an inspiration to us as founders and we are so pleased that the ARMA judges recognised this in you as well. Here’s to you Emily… to the next 10 years and many more!
